Client brief
The client wanted a planting scheme for a long and narrow border without requiring a complete garden redesign, with a focus on year-round interest, privacy and manageable maintenance.
Design approach
The planting bed was only around 50cm wide, which naturally limits planting possibilities and required careful plant selection. In narrower borders, plants need to be chosen with mature sizes and growth habits in mind to avoid competition and overcrowding over time. In many areas, this meant working with a single row of planting or smaller grouped combinations rather than deeper layered planting.
Standard evergreen trees were positioned behind the jacuzzi area to provide year-round screening and additional privacy. Larger shrubs towards the rear left section introduce structure, movement and colour throughout the seasons, helping create a more balanced and lively appearance.
The result is a planting scheme designed to work within tight space limitations while still delivering structure, privacy and year-round interest without becoming difficult to control as the garden matures.
